About

Learn more about Simone, Kovu and the practical truffle dog journey behind Canine Truffle Hunting and Training.

My truffle journey began in 2018 with Kovu, a working personality Belgian Shepard, who needed a job. Starting in therapy dog work and K9 nose work, he thrived when he has a purpose and loves scent work and now truffle hunting. Now Zara (9 years), my other Belgian Shepard, is holding the reigns this year (2026) as Kovu (12 years) is moving into semi-retirement.

We visited in excess of 30 farms last year throughout Victoria finding >250kg of truffle in the 2025 season. My dogs are experts in Tuber melanosporum (winter black), Tuber aestivum (summer black), Tuber uncinatum (autumn black) and Tuber Borchii (Spring white). We also assist farms running truffle hunting events for potential restaurants buyers, farm gate customers, market stalls ect, as my dogs are trained to also work with an audience.

We are truffle hunting 5 days a week during the truffle season (June – August). Serving return clients each year with some limited availability for new clients.

Joining a panel of experts at the 2024 Australian Truffle Conference, then doing a 1.5-hour presentation at the 2025 conference was an absolute honour. Kovu searching the room of 100 or so people for four truffle hides hidden in the audience was quite memorable for most.

During the off season I offer three levels of private truffle dog training and working with Noel Fitzpatrick from TruffleGrowing.com travelling within Victoria and interstate to do truffle workshops.
