Truffle Dog Training Courses

Private one-on-one tuition is available in person (Victoria travel cost applies) or via video chat. Programs run over 4 weeks, with weekly tasks, video submissions, timestamped feedback and course customization based on progression.

  • Beginner

    Introducing the Truffle Hunting Game

    $700 (+ travel if in person)

    • Understanding canine olfaction and body language (theory)
    • Understanding canine Psychology (theory)
    • Demonstration of pairing hides and handling odour
    • Learning the word “Find”
    • Pairing scent with reward (indoor/outdoor)
    • Introducing handler given reward.
    • Troubleshooting when your dog is on odour
    • 2-hour call/session + video review + coursework (10 pages)

  • Intermediate

    Increasing the Difficulty for the Dog

    $1000 (+ travel if in person)

    • Obedience and leadership foundations (theory)
    • Current-level search review with tips and feedback
    • Unpaired hide/handling odour demonstration and practical.
    • Teaching ‘show’, increasing focus and marking accuracy
    • Demonstrating “Drop” command after scent alert.
    • Growing leadership relationship with your dog / Leadership Tasks
    • 2-hour call/session + video review + coursework (11 pages)

  • Advanced

    Increasing Difficulty for the Human/Canine Team

    $1300 (+ travel if in person)

    • Understanding truffle growth, rip line, digging and preserving (theory)
    • How truffle odour behaves in real conditions and truffle specific trouble shooting (theory)
    • Blind hide/variable weather challenge and handling review
    • Multiple hides/ Small deep truffle challenges and handling review.
    • Maintaining confidence, focus and marking accuracy
    • 2-hour call/session + video review + coursework (15 pages)
